Dave Bowker works within the field of infographics and data visualisation, lucidly communicating in a structured and aesthetically engaging way. Comparing his specialism to working with puzzles, his responsibility is to solve problems by finding the best way to piece different elements together. For his final degree project, Bowker gave a fresh insight into how to convey news stories and information employing a visually dynamic approach, managing complex material but presenting in a simple format. Looking at alternative interfaces, Bowker finds new modes in which to communicate, applying the assets of graphic design in both commercial and cultural contexts.

As part of Designers in Residence, Bowker is examining the signage within the building, mapping the area and simulating the way finding needs of visitors. He will be identifying multiple pathways and plotting routes in which people move around the space. From this data he will work out the positioning of signage within the museum to help visitors navigate more easily. The brief is quite challenging due to various restrictions, but for Bowker this makes finding the solutions more interesting – continuously striving for a seamless solution, that is elegant, clean and offers information willingly.

Now based in London, Dave Bowker studied at Huddersfield University graduating with a first from Multimedia Design in 2008. His final project, Designing the News, received recognition, featuring in various international design publications. Since graduating he has set up his own company working as a graphic and web designer.
